Congratulations to 17 year old Shehana Vithana from Sydney, New South Wales on being selected to represent Australia in the U19 girls’ competition at the Trans-Tasman Challenge, which takes place on the 18th and 19th April 2017 in Auckland, New Zealand.

We caught up with Shehana to see how she is getting along ahead of the tournament.

Shehana has shown admirable progress in her development over the past few years, which has led to her being selected as part of the National Junior Squad for a number of years. She also previously represented Australia at the Trans-Tasman Challenge in 2016.

Shehana attended the first Squash Australia High Performance camp at the Australian Institute of Sport earlier this year where worked with a number of National Junior coaches. She was exposed to concepts around strength and conditioning and other support services, such as psychology, nutrition and psychology.

These AIS camps are vital to the development of young athletes like Shehana who have aspirations in representing Australia at world events or Commonwealth Games. It is essential they then take the information they gained at the camps back home and apply it to their weekly training.

We wish Shehana the best of luck for the U19 event at the Oceania Junior Championships and Trans-Tasman Challenge.
